What is emergency lighting?
Emergency lighting is lighting that keeps working when the power fails. This is possible because there is a battery in the fitting that charges itself while there is mains power, and takes over as soon as it fails. The purpose is simple but essential: in a dark building, people must be able to see where they are walking and where the exit is.
Where do you need it?
Mainly in spaces used by people who don't know the building, or that become completely dark in a power cut: hallways, stairwells, escape routes, warehouses and public spaces. It also matters in a room without windows. For many buildings there are legal requirements here, covering presence, placement and maintenance; exactly which ones apply depends on the type of building and how it is used.
What to look for
Look at the autonomy time: how long the lighting stays on after a mains failure. Also pay attention to the version: some fittings come on only during a power cut, while others stay on continuously. For damp or dusty spaces, pay attention to the stated protection rating (IP rating). Keep in mind, too, that emergency lighting has to be tested and maintained periodically.

Emergency lighting is about safety and regulations, and the requirements vary from one situation to another. Have the placement and connection carried out by a professional, and check which regulations apply to your premises. In our business lighting category you'll also find LED panels and flush ceiling lights. The specifications are listed for each fitting in the product details.
