Light that spreads
The beam angle determines how wide the light spreads from your spotlight. With a wide beam angle, the light spreads out to cover a larger area without hard edges. That makes this GU10 bulb well suited to general lighting: it lights a room evenly rather than picking out accents.
Where do you use it?
Anywhere the light needs to cover the whole room: a living room with recessed spotlights, a hallway, a utility room or a bathroom. It's also more efficient when you can only fit a limited number of spotlights, as each one does more work. And with a lower ceiling, a wide beam avoids hard pools of light on the floor.
When not to use it
If you want to highlight something, a wide angle works against you: the light falls a little everywhere, and so nowhere in particular. For a painting, cabinet or worktop, choose a narrow beam angle. A wide beam is also less suitable with a high ceiling, as the light spreads too far before it reaches the floor.
Combining works best
The best lighting schemes combine the two: wide beams for the base light and narrow beams for the accents. A track makes this easy to mix. Choose warm white light for the living room, or cool white for the kitchen or utility room.
