The only room where you look up
The bedroom is different from the rest of the house. It's the only room where you look at your lamp while lying in bed, with your gaze upwards. That makes glare an important consideration. At the same time, you need enough light in the morning to get dressed and find things in the wardrobe. These two requirements may seem contradictory, but the right combination of lamps makes it easy: functional light from the ceiling, with softer light beside the bed.
Where do you find what?
Bedroom ceiling lights provide general lighting without getting in the way. Bedroom pendant lights add atmosphere and can become a focal point in the room. Bedroom wall lights are a practical reading light that keeps your bedside table clear. And bedside lamps provide soft light within easy reach.
How to approach it
Start with the general lighting: choose a model where the bulb is not directly visible, for example with a fabric shade or opal-white glass. Then add light beside the bed, on both sides if you sleep as a couple, so one person can read without waking the other. If you have little room on your bedside table, a wall light is a practical choice. Finally, consider cabinet lighting in your wardrobe, so you can see what you're looking for without having to search in the dark.
Light and atmosphere
Choose warm white light (around 2700K) for a calm, relaxing atmosphere that helps you unwind better than cool, clear light. Dimmable lighting is particularly useful in the bedroom, as you need very different levels of brightness in the morning and just before going to sleep. You can use a dimmer, or choose a 3-step dimmable light bulb that you can use without installing a separate dimmer.
