What is the Japandi style?
Japandi combines Japanese minimalism with the warmth and simplicity of Scandinavian design. The result is a clean look with natural materials, soft tones and organic shapes. A Japandi table lamp is understated rather than attention-grabbing, making it a natural fit for a sideboard or bedside table.
Materials and colours
Japandi table lamps are characterised by natural materials and soft, earthy colours. You’ll find models with linen or fabric shades, combined with wood, bamboo or rattan details, as well as woven shades that cast subtle shadows on the wall. The colours are understated, including beige, sand, taupe, warm brown, off-white and black. Because the shade filters the light, it creates a soft, diffused glow rather than bright, direct light.
Where can you place a Japandi table lamp?
A Japandi table lamp works particularly well on a bedside table, where soft lighting is ideal for the evening. On a sideboard, side table or windowsill, it adds warmth without making the space feel busy. It also works well in a reading corner or on a bookcase, where the natural materials complement the rest of the interior. If you like this understated style, take a look at the Japandi pendant lights or Japandi floor lamps.
Which bulb do you need?
Most Japandi table lamps are fitted with an E27 or E14 bulb fitting. Choose a warm white light of around 2700K for the soft, cosy atmosphere that suits this style. Because the shade usually filters the light, you do not need a decorative filament bulb. However, if the bulb is visible through an open or woven shade, a decorative filament bulb can add an extra touch. The bulb fitting and size you need are listed in the specifications for each lamp.
