Joining cables neatly
With a connector, you join two cables together. That sounds simple, and it is, provided you use the right type. A good connection makes the difference between lighting that runs for years without problems and a fault on a rainy evening. You use connectors, for example, to extend an underground power cable or to connect a lamp.
Connector blocks
Indoors, connector blocks are the most common solution: you click the wire in without soldering or screwing, and the connection is immediately secure. They come in various versions, depending on how many wires you want to join. Tidy them away in a junction box or in the housing of your fitting.
Connections outdoors
Outdoors, stricter requirements apply. A connection exposed to moisture must be finished so that it is waterproof: use connectors intended for that purpose and pay attention to the stated protection rating (IP rating). A connector block from the living room does not belong in a border. With connections that are underground or on the façade in particular, this is not the part to skimp on.
Working safely
Always work with the power off: switch off the circuit and check it with a voltage tester. Make sure no copper is exposed and that the connector closes properly. If you are unsure about the right connection or about the regulations, call in a professional. The specifications are listed for each item in the product details.
