The bulb as a feature
With most lamps, you choose a bulb that does its job without standing out. With XL bulbs, it is the other way around: these E27 bulbs are part of the design. Their large size and prominent spiral filament immediately draw attention. Going for a cord pendant? Combine it with a large XL bulb and make the bulb a feature in its own right.
Which sizes are available?
XL bulbs are available with diameters of 95 mm, 160 mm and 200 mm. They work best in large fittings with open shades or where the bulb is fully visible. The larger the bulb, the more it becomes part of the overall look: a 200 mm bulb is almost an object in its own right. Always measure the space in or under your fitting to make sure the bulb will fit.
Where do you use them?
XL bulbs work best where they can be seen: on a cord pendant, in an open bulb fitting, in a transparent glass shade or in an industrial fitting without a shade. Above a bar, in a hospitality space or in a stairwell, they can make a strong visual impact. In a closed shade, the extra size has little benefit because the bulb is hidden.
Glass and dimming
Choose clear glass for a brighter, more open look, amber glass for a warm glow or smoked glass for a darker look. The bulbs are dimmable as standard with an external dimmer, and some versions are 3-step dimmable.
