What is a wall dimmer switch?
A wall dimmer switch is recessed into the wall where your light switch would normally be. You can use it to control fixed lighting connected to a light point, such as a pendant light above the dining table, spotlights in the living room or a ceiling light. It's the most discreet type of dimmer: you only see your own switch plate, so dimming becomes a natural part of the room.
Smooth dimming to zero percent
With this wall dimmer switch, you can dim our dimmable LED bulbs smoothly down to zero percent. You can also set the minimum brightness level yourself. This is useful if you notice a bulb starting to flicker at a very low level: simply set the minimum level higher so that the light remains stable.
Fits your existing switch material
The wall dimmer switch is a universal dimmer, so in most cases you can connect it to your existing switch material. You therefore don't have to replace your entire wall finish: the existing cover plate will usually fit, keeping the dimmer in line with the rest of your switches. The wall dimmer switch is available in a standard version and in black. There is also a duo version, which allows you to dim two circuits separately.
What to look for
Add up the wattage of all the lamps on the circuit and check that the total falls within the dimmer's range. With the duo version, this applies to each side separately. A wall dimmer switch only works with dimmable bulbs, so check that your bulbs are suitable too. If you'd rather not make any changes to the wall, take a look at the inline dimmer or cord dimmer instead. If you're unsure about connecting the dimmer, have it installed by a qualified professional.
