What is a connection lead?

A connection lead is a cable with a plug that you use to connect a lamp to a socket. You can use it, for example, to connect a cord dimmer, replace an old or damaged cord, or make a lamp yourself. It also comes in handy with a cord pendant or a separate lamp holder.

Why order it separately?

Some parts are deliberately supplied without a cord, so you can choose the length and colour that suit your situation. Our cord dimmers, for example, are supplied without a cord, so you need to connect the dimmer to the connection lead yourself. That way, you're not tied to a standard length that's either too short or unnecessarily long.

Which length and colour do you choose?

Measure the distance from your lamp to the socket generously, and keep the route along a skirting board or around a piece of furniture in mind. Choose a colour that matches your lamp or wall where possible: a black cord blends in with a dark fitting, while a white cord works well against a light wall. This keeps the overall look neat and understated.

Connecting safely

Always connect a cord with the power switched off: pull the plug out of the socket or switch off the circuit. Make sure all the wires are firmly connected and that no copper is exposed. If you're unsure, call in a professional. If you use the cord outdoors, choose material suitable for outdoor use and pay attention to the stated protection rating (IP rating), which indicates how well the product can withstand moisture.
