Keep your bedside table clear
A wall light beside the bed is a practical lighting choice for the bedroom. It takes up no space on your bedside table, leaving room for your book, phone and a glass of water. There's no cable running across the table either. In a small bedroom, or if you have narrow bedside tables, that can make a real difference.
Adjustable is best
Choose a model with a rotatable, extendable or adjustable arm where possible. You can direct the light onto your book without disturbing your partner, then push the lamp back towards the wall when you're finished. Wall spotlights with a tiltable head work well too. If you only want soft ambient light, a fixed model with a closed shade is a better choice.
At what height do you hang it?
As a general rule, you shouldn't be able to look directly into the bulb. Hanging the light around five centimetres above eye level helps prevent this. Beside the bed, hang it at a height where the light falls on your book when you're sitting upright. Use your own sitting position in bed as a guide rather than relying on a standard height. It can help to mark the position with tape before you drill.
Light and bulb
Choose warm white light (around 2700K), which is ideal for winding down before bed. If you mainly use the lamp for reading, a slightly higher brightness can be useful. Our wall lights are suitable for bulbs with an E27, E14, GU10 or G9 fitting. The bulb you need is listed in the specifications for each wall light.
