The bulbs make the difference

Two identical festoon cables can look completely different: the bulbs are what make the difference. The wattage gives you an indication of how much light a bulb produces, while the lumens tell you how much light it actually gives off. The light colour determines the atmosphere, while the shade determines how the bulb looks. On this page, you will find separate bulbs to put together your cable, extend it or replace a faulty bulb.

Which bulbs are there?

Warm white is the classic choice for a cosy patio. Glass bulbs have a visible filament for a vintage look, while coloured bulbs give a more festive look. All have an E27 bulb fitting, so they fit the bulb sockets on your festoon cable.

Which wattage do you choose?

This is the most important choice. If you want soft ambient lighting, 0.7W or 1W bulbs are the best choice. A 1W bulb gives 60 lm and replaces an 8W incandescent bulb, while a 2W bulb gives 130 lm and replaces a 20W incandescent bulb. So if you want more light rather than just atmosphere, choose 2W. Pay attention to the maximum load: the bulb sockets can handle a maximum of 15W each, while the festoon cables can handle a maximum of 2300W.

Durable and replaceable

The bulbs with an E27 bulb fitting have an almost unbreakable polycarbonate shade. The LED bulbs are energy-efficient and have a long lifespan. If a bulb should unexpectedly break, you can easily replace it, so you never have to throw away your whole cable. It is also worth ordering a spare bulb, as a festoon cable is often hung high up or in a difficult-to-reach place.

Pay attention to the sealing

When screwing in the bulb, check that the sealing ring sits properly around it. This protects the connection between the bulb socket and the bulb against moisture. Screw the bulb in firmly, but do not force it. You can find separate sealing rings among the other festoon lighting parts.
