Light to work by
Lighting in a work environment calls for different choices than at home. Where at home it is mainly about atmosphere, in an office or business premises what counts most is that people can work well and comfortably: enough light output, an even spread and as little glare as possible. On top of that, there are safety requirements, such as lighting that keeps working if the power fails.
Where do you find what?
LED panels give even task light for an office or consulting room. Emergency lighting stays on during a power cut. And flush ceiling lights give robust base lighting for hallways and storage rooms.
What to look for
Look at the light output in relation to the space and to the work that takes place there: a warehouse calls for something different from a consulting room. Also pay attention to the light colour, usually 4000K for a neutral, clear work environment, and to the UGR value if people sit at a screen for long periods, as this indicates the level of glare. For damp or dusty spaces, pay attention to the stated protection rating (IP rating).
