Functional and soft
A ceiling light provides the general lighting you need in the bedroom. It gives you enough light for making the bed, getting dressed or finding things in the wardrobe, while in the evening you'll want something softer and more relaxing. Because a ceiling light sits close to the ceiling, it also leaves plenty of space above the bed and along the walkway beside the wardrobe.
Preventing glare
This is an important consideration in the bedroom: you lie underneath the light and look straight up at it. So choose a model where the bulb is not directly visible, for example with a fabric shade or opal-white glass. These spread the light softly and evenly. A clear glass globe with a visible bulb can be uncomfortably bright above the bed.
Pay attention to the mounting height
Many bedrooms are in the loft or have a sloping roof, so there may be less headroom than you think. First measure how much space you have and, if the ceiling is low, take a look at a flush ceiling light. These sit close to the ceiling and barely protrude. Also consider the diameter of the light in relation to the size of the room.
Style and bulb
Calm Japandi and Wabi-Sabi models are popular in the bedroom, with their soft tones and organic shapes. Choose warm white light (around 2700K) for a calm atmosphere. If you want to dim the light without a separate dimmer, choose a model with integrated LED that is 3-step dimmable. The bulb fitting you need is listed in the product details.
