Why choose opal-white glass?
Opal-white glass, also known as opal glass, is slightly opaque and diffuses the light softly and evenly. This is particularly useful with a glass ceiling light: you often walk or lie beneath it, so you don’t want to look straight into a bright bulb. Opal-white glass helps prevent glare while providing even light throughout the room. The bulb also stays hidden, giving the ceiling light a clean, streamlined appearance.
Which interior styles suit opal-white glass?
Opal-white glass is timeless and suits modern, Scandinavian, minimalist or classic interiors. You’ll find it in models with one large shade, multi-light designer lamps with globes on a slim frame, and versions with adjustable spotlights. The glass is often combined with a frame in black, gold, beige or sand gold.
For which room?
Opal-white glass is the most practical choice for spaces where you need plenty of light. It works well in the bedroom because it diffuses the light, making it softer and easier on the eyes, while in the landing, hallway, kitchen or storage room, it provides plenty of light without harsh glare. If you are looking for atmosphere rather than bright light, amber or smoked glass is a stylish alternative.
Which light bulb do you choose?
Opal-white glass ceiling lights usually work with an E27 lamp holder; multi-light models with smaller globes often use an E14 or G9 lamp holder. Because the bulb is not visible, you don't need a decorative filament bulb: a standard bulb with warm white light (around 2700K) is perfect. The bulb fitting and size you need are always listed in the product details.
