A festoon cable hangs outdoors, so the bulbs you use need to be suitable for outdoor conditions. These E27 bulbs are made for this purpose: they can withstand outdoor conditions and fit the bulb sockets of your festoon cable. See the full range of festoon bulbs.

Pay attention to the seal

This is the most important point for outdoor use: when screwing in the bulb, check that the sealing ring closes properly around it. Only then is the connection between the bulb socket and the bulb protected against moisture. Screw the bulb in firmly, but do not force it. When you put the lighting back up after winter, check that all the bulbs are still seated properly.

Which atmosphere do you want?

For a cosy evening, choose warm bulbs: extra warm white light creates a candlelight effect above your patio. If you want a more festive look, take a look at the coloured bulbs. You can also combine them: mainly warm white with a few coloured bulbs can look more interesting than using coloured bulbs throughout.

Dimming and load

If you want to dim your festoon cable, choose dimmable bulbs and a dimmer suitable for outdoor use. Our dimmer set is suitable for outdoor use thanks to its IP44 rating. Add up the load of all the bulbs in your festoon cable and check that it falls within the dimmer's rated range. Please note that the indoor plug-in dimmer is not suitable for use with our glass bulbs.
