The small screw fitting

Just as with E27, the "E" means you screw the bulb into the lamp holder, while "14" refers to the diameter of the thread: 14 mm. That makes E14 the little brother of the E27. You'll find it in lamps where an ordinary bulb simply won't fit: smaller shades, compact models and multi-light fittings with several globes.

Where is E14 used?

Often in multi-light pendant lights and ceiling lights with smaller glass globes, as well as wall lights, table lamps and track pendant lights. The lamp holder you need is always listed in the product details, so do check there: E14 and E27 look similar but are not interchangeable.

Pay attention to the size too

Because E14 is used in small fittings, size matters here. A bulb that fits the lamp holder can still be too big for the shade. If in doubt, measure the space inside your lamp, or check the product details for the recommended size. Shape counts: a candle-shaped bulb sometimes fits where a globe-shaped one does not.

Dimming

If you want to adjust the brightness, choose a dimmable E14 bulb together with an external dimmer. Prefer not to fit a dimmer? A 3-step dimmable E14 bulb is a handy choice, as you dim it with the ordinary on/off switch. For a sleek, elongated effect, take a look at the tube lights.
