What is a suspended track spotlight?
Where an ordinary track spotlight sits close to the track, a suspended track spotlight hangs below it from a cable. This gives you the atmosphere and focused light of a pendant light while keeping all the advantages of a track system: you can easily position the pendant anywhere along the track and move it whenever you like. This makes suspended track spotlights ideal above a dining table, kitchen island or bar, especially if you do not have a ceiling connection exactly where you need it.
The models
You will find track pendant lights with amber or smoked glass in round, wide and teardrop shapes, sometimes combined with dark wood effect. There are also sleek tube pendant lights, suspended lamp holders with E27 bulbs and cord pendants that add variety to your track system. If you choose an open lamp holder or clear glass, the light source largely determines the look.
Hanging at the right height
The suspension cable is usually generously sized, for example 130 cm. If you want the lamp to hang higher, you can use a cable shortener for 1-phase track to reduce the cable length and adjust the height to suit your space. The lamp should hang around 80 to 100 cm above the tabletop when placed above a dining table. For an atmospheric effect, combine several pendant lights at different heights and add directed spotlights to the same track.
Which light source do you choose?
This varies per model: the glass track pendant lights often work with an E14 lamp holder, and suspended lamp holders and cord pendants with an E27 lamp holder, while most spotlights have a GU10 lamp holder. The light source is not included, so you choose the look and brightness exactly as you like. The lamp holder and compatible bulb size are always listed in the product details.
