At what height?

You usually hang the lamp beside the front door at about eye level or slightly higher, so the light falls on your lock and key rather than into your eyes. If you hang several lamps along a façade, keep equal heights and distances: that regularity creates the effect. Mark the positions first before you drill.

What to look for

Pay attention to the stated IP rating, which indicates how well a lamp is protected against rain and moisture. If you would rather the lamp did not protrude, for example along a narrow path or in a garden wall, take a look at the recessed wall lights.
