Light all evening
A mains-powered table lamp has one big advantage: it will keep working for as long as you need it. While a rechargeable or solar lamp eventually runs out of power, a mains-powered lamp can stay on all evening. That is useful if you often sit outside for a long time, have a fixed seating area under a canopy, or run a hospitality business where you need reliable lighting.
More brightness
Because it does not rely on a battery, a mains-powered lamp can provide more brightness. If you want to see your food clearly or read outdoors, this can be a real advantage. With many models, you choose the bulb yourself, usually an E27 bulb, so you can choose the light colour and brightness that suit you.
You do need a connection
You do need a cable running to the lamp. Make sure you have a safe outdoor connection point, such as an outdoor socket or a floor lamp with a socket, and position the cable so that no one can trip over it. If you would rather have no cables, take a look at our rechargeable table lamps.
What to look for
Pay attention to the stated protection rating (IP rating) and where you plan to use the lamp. A lamp under a canopy has different requirements from one on a completely exposed table. Outdoors, only use cables and extension leads that are suitable for outdoor use. Choose warm white light for a cosy atmosphere at the table.
