If you've taken a stroll through the centre of any Dutch city recently, chances are you've seen cheerful coloured party lights hanging on terraces or facades. These lights are the ideal way to provide sufficient light over a large area and create a cosy atmosphere. In addition to catering establishments, many customers also hang the lights in their homes, gardens or on their balconies. This allows you to enjoy plenty of atmospheric light during long summer evenings outside your home.

What materials are the party lights made of?

The lights are made of high-quality rubber. This means they can take a beating, and you can safely hang the lights outside in the garden. On other sites, you may sometimes come across 'party lights' that do not have a rubber cable, but a standard cord. These lights are more suitable for indoor use.

The wiring of LumenXL cables is made of copper, which makes the cable more flexible than other cables with Aluminium wiring. This allows you to hang the cable in all kinds of shapes and angles.

The LED lights themselves are made of plastic (polycarbonate). This means they are sturdy and safe. Plastic is virtually unbreakable. The lights will remain intact even if a strong gust of wind blows them against a tree or fence, for example.

What colours can I choose from?

The party lights on this page are pre-assembled. This means that you do not have to screw the lights into the lampholders on the cable yourself. This saves you work during the preparations. The colours of the lights are:

• Blue
• Red
• Green
• Yellow

If you would prefer different coloured lights, you can put together your own party lighting by purchasing a cable, lampholders and lights.

What dimensions can I choose from?

Here you will find the sizes of our cables. They may seem a little strange, but that is because all lengths consist of 10 or 25 metre cables, with 1 and 1.5 metre Power cables respectively. This Power cable is only needed once per cable. For example: a 50-metre cable consists of 2x25 metres. This leaves a 1.5-metre connector. The end cable will therefore be 48.5 metres long. This information is intended for clarification purposes. You do not need to connect the cables yourself, of course.

How long do the lights last?

Each LED bulb has a lifespan of approximately 20,000 hours. If you have the Festoon lighting cables on every evening from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., the bulbs will last for approximately 10 years. If a bulb does stop working, you can remove it from the cable and insert a new Festoon light. The cables are designed in such a way that if one bulb fails, all the other bulbs will continue to work.

How can you install the festive lighting?

After you have ordered the party lights, you will usually receive your package the next day. In the box, you will find the ready-to-use cable with the lights already attached.

You can attach the lights in all sorts of ways. If you have a hook, beam or branch somewhere, you can hang them over it. For the most stable attachment, we recommend a hanging eye or mounting kit.

Are the party lights rainproof?

If you want to hang the lights outside, it is of course important that they can withstand a British rainstorm. All our cables are IP44 certified. This means that they are splash-proof and weather and rain-resistant. You can safely leave them outside all year round. 

How do you choose the correct length of party lighting?

In general, it is better to choose a slightly longer cable than you initially expect. It is much easier to bridge a distance of, for example, 27 metres with a 30-metre cable than to stretch a 25-metre Festoon lighting cable over the same 27 metres.

When measuring, keep in mind that the cable may sag slightly between each connection point. This creates that cosy mood lighting, as you can see in the product photos above.

How can you maintain the party lights properly?

The lights are easy to maintain. If the lights are hung outside, the most important thing is to keep the plug connection free of moisture. You could use an outdoor plug if the plug is located in an unprotected area. The cable itself does not require any maintenance. When an LED light needs to be replaced, you can easily remove it and insert a new Festoon light in its place. It is best to do this exactly where the two holes of the previous light were, but this does not have to be 100% accurate. The most important thing is that the fitting of the new Festoon light completely covers the previous holes.

Can you leave the party lights hanging outside?

Yes, all party lights are rainproof. You can therefore leave the lights outside without any problems. To be on the safe side, it is always a good idea to check that the cable itself is securely attached or fastened everywhere. If this is the case, you can leave the cable outside.
