What is a tube light?
A tube light is an elongated E27 bulb with a straight, tubular shape rather than the classic globe shape. The filament runs along the length of the bulb, creating a longer line of light rather than a single point. This gives it a clean, graphic look that stands out from an ordinary bulb.
Where does it come into its own?
The shape works best when you can see the bulb. Think of a cord pendant where the bulb hangs freely, an open bulb fitting or a fitting with transparent glass. Tube lights also work well in industrial or vintage interiors and in hospitality settings. In a closed shade, the shape is largely hidden, so a different bulb may be a better choice.
Pay attention to the length
With an ordinary bulb, the diameter is usually the main measurement to consider. With a tube light, the length is just as important. Measure the space in or under your fitting, and keep in mind that the elongated shape extends further than a globe-shaped bulb. The exact dimensions are listed in the product details.
Glass and dimming
Tube lights are available in clear glass for a brighter look and amber glass for a warmer, vintage glow. They are dimmable as standard with an external dimmer, and some versions are 3-step dimmable. Looking for something even larger? Take a look at our large bulbs.
