With a recessed outdoor spotlight, the fitting is built into the ceiling or wall, so it does not protrude. This works particularly well under a modern canopy or veranda where you want the lighting to blend into the structure.

Where do you use them?

You can use them in the ceiling of a canopy, veranda or carport, where they provide even light without anything protruding. In an outdoor staircase, spotlights set into the steps provide light without creating an obstacle. You can also use them in a garden wall to define a patio with light at knee height. If you want to highlight something from the ground instead, take a look at the ground lights.

Measure your installation depth

This is the important point. Before you order, measure how much space you have behind the ceiling or in the wall, and check the required cut-out. With a wooden canopy with thin cladding, there is often less space than you might expect. Recessing a light is also easiest to arrange during construction. Afterwards, it means cutting into the ceiling or wall and running cables.

What to look for

Pay attention to the stated protection rating (IP rating): wind-driven rain can reach a spotlight even under a canopy, and water can splash up if it is close to the ground. Most recessed spotlights are fitted with a GU10 bulb fitting, so you can choose the bulb and beam angle yourself. Have the connection carried out by a professional.
