Straight into the ground

A bollard light is a compact, low lamp that you can secure in the ground with a spike. With a solar model, there is no cable to install: simply push it into the border and you're done. That makes it one of the easiest ways to light a garden path, driveway or border. If you change the layout later, you can simply pull the lamp out and move it.

Light on the ground, not in your eyes

Because a bollard light is low to the ground, it lights the path without shining directly into your eyes. This keeps the lighting discreet and also helps prevent unnecessary light spilling into your neighbours' gardens. Along a path, place the lamps alternately rather than directly opposite each other. This creates a more natural lighting effect and avoids the runway look.

Mind the planting

Solar bollard lights need plenty of sunlight during the day to charge, but they sit low among the plants. In spring, a lamp may be completely clear, while by July it could be hidden among the perennials. Keep this in mind when choosing where to place it, and make sure the surrounding plants do not block the panel.

Solar or mains power?

Solar is ideal if you want subtle lighting to help you find your way along a path.
