Which solar light is right for you?
Solar bollard lights are ideal for paths, borders and driveways. Solar wall lights work well on a shed, fence or garden wall. Solar table lamps provide soft light on your garden table, while solar string lights add atmosphere along a pergola or fence. Give the panel plenty of sun
The length of time that the lamp stays on depends on how much sunlight the panel receives during the day. So choose a spot where the panel gets plenty of direct sunlight, preferably facing south and away from the shade of a hedge, tree, fence or roof edge. This is particularly important in a garden, where paths and borders are often surrounded by planting that can cast more shade as it grows.
What to expect in winter
A solar lamp will usually stay on for less time in winter than in summer because there are fewer hours of daylight and less sunlight to charge the battery. In June, there can be around sixteen hours of daylight, while in December there are barely eight, often with cloudy skies as well. So expect your solar lights to stay on for less time during the darker months. If you want lighting that performs consistently all year round, for example on a driveway where you park your car, mains power is more reliable.
Soft light for atmosphere
Solar lighting usually provides soft, atmospheric light: enough to make your garden feel welcoming and help you find your way around. If you need more brightness, take a look at our mains-powered models, such as outdoor floor lamps or wall lights. With solar lighting, the LED is already built in, so you do not need to choose a bulb yourself.
