Choosing the right dimension
Choosing the right length of festoon lighting cable is the first step. Measure the distance the festoon lighting cables will need to cover. Then decide whether you want the festoon lighting cable to hang taut or slightly curved. This will help you determine how long your festoon lighting cable needs to be. You can find detailed size diagrams of our festoon lighting cables in the handyoverview. You can also see here how long the power cable is for each dimension.
Connectable electric fences
Are you not yet sure how long the electric fence will ultimately be and would you like to be able to extend it later? Then choose our connectable electric fences. These electric fences feature a unique connector system. This system allows you to easily disconnect the end and the power cable from the festoon lighting cable. This way, you can simply connect another festoon lighting cable to your existing one to extend it. Do you want to use the festoon lighting cables separately? Simply reconnect the power cable and the end piece to the festoon lighting cables. This means that connectable festoon lighting cables can also be used separately.
Choosing the number of lampholders
Choosing the number of lampholders is the next step. To make this choice, it is good to know how the festoon lighting cable will be hung. For example, if a festoon lighting cable is stretched twice over the same section, one lampholder per metre might be sufficient. If, for example, a festoon lighting cable is stretched in a straight line, the best effect is achieved with two lampholders per metre. The wattage of the bulbs and your own preference naturally also play a part in making this choice. The option most frequently chosen by our customers is two lampholders per metre.
Choosing the right dimmer switch
We offer two different dimmers for our dimmable festoon lighting sets. It is important to check which dimmer is suitable for your situation.
Plug-in dimmer
Thisplug-in dimmerhas an IP20 protection rating and is therefore only suitable for indoor use. The dimmer can handle a maximum Wattage of 20–400 watts. The plug-in dimmer does not have a remote control. You operate the plug-in dimmer using the rotary knob on the dimmer itself. Would you still like to operate the dimmer with a remote control? Then you can combine the dimmer with ourswitch set with remote control. This plug-in dimmer is suitable for both lamps with plastic shades and lamps with glass shades. Please note! This plug-in dimmer is not suitable for sockets with a pin earth.
Dimmer set
Thedimmer setfor up to 350/500/650 watts has an IP44 protection rating and is therefore suitable for outdoor use. The dimmer set can handle a maximum Wattage of 350/500/650 watts. The dimmer set comes with a remote control and has a 3-metre power cable. For prolonged outdoor use, we do recommend providing extra protection for the connection between the plug and the socket. You can do this by placing the connection under a canopy or by ensuring that the connection cannot collect and retain water. Please note! The dimmer set for up to 350/500/650 watts is only suitable for ourdimmable LED bulbs with a plastic shade.
Choosing the bulb, Wattage and Colour temperature
We have various dimmable LED bulbs in our range. First of all, it is important to consider which bulb appeals to you in terms of appearance. Once you have made your choice, you can look for the correct Wattage and Colour temperature.
Wattage
It’s very simple: the higher the wattage, the brighter the bulb. Our dimmable bulbs can be dimmed down to 10% of their wattage. A 3-watt bulb can therefore be dimmed down to 0.3 watts. This makes dimmable bulbs ideal for switching between different wattages and adapting them to the current situation. Wattages of 1 watt or lower are suitable for mood lighting. With dimmable bulbs, it is better to look at the maximum wattage. Bulbs with a wattage of 3.5 watts, for example, provide more light at the highest setting than 2-watt bulbs and are therefore often used in hospitality venues or at festivals. For use in the home or garden, dimmable bulbs of 2 watts or 3 watts are often chosen.
Colour temperature
Colour temperature is expressed in Kelvin (K) and indicates the colour of the light emitted by the bulb. The higher the Kelvin rating, the whiter the light. We offer our bulbs in various colour temperatures. The colour temperatures 2000K and 2200K are at the lower end of the Kelvin spectrum and therefore produce an extra warm white light that compares to the glow of candlelight. The colour temperatures 2650K and 2700K produce a warm white light that compares to an old-fashioned incandescent bulb.
Hanging the festoon lighting cable
Hanging a festoon lighting cable is simple. Using ourmounting kitsorcable ties, you can easily secure the festoon lighting cable. Please note that the end cap is not suitable for hanging the festoon lighting cable. We recommend creating a hanging loop using a cable tie. The festoon lighting cable should also be supported or secured every 3 metres. In open areas where the festoon lighting cable is exposed to strong gusts of wind, we recommend securing or supporting the festoon lighting cable every metre.
