What is a high bay light?

A high bay light is designed for large spaces with high ceilings, such as warehouses, storage halls, workshops and sports halls. It provides powerful lighting from above, helping keep floors and storage areas well lit.

Mounting height and beam angle

The height of the ceiling and the beam angle are important when choosing a high bay light. A narrower beam can help direct light towards the floor from greater heights, while a wider beam covers a larger area when the fitting is mounted lower down. In spaces with high storage racks and narrow aisles, a narrower beam directed along the aisles may provide more effective lighting than a wide beam.

What else should you consider?

Consider the light output you need for the size of the space and the work being carried out. Packing areas, for example, may require brighter lighting than storage areas. In dusty or damp environments, check the stated protection rating (IP rating) to ensure the fitting is suitable. Neutral white light, usually around 4000K, is a common choice for workspaces. Some models also offer dimming or sensor control.

Energy efficiency and maintenance

LED high bay lights use less electricity than traditional fittings and have a long lifespan. This is particularly useful when lights are installed several metres above the floor, as replacing them can require a cherry picker or scaffolding. If you need lighting for lower ceilings or aisles, take a look at our LED downlights. Have the lights installed and connected by a qualified professional.
