Light where you sit
A ceiling light illuminates the whole living room, but it doesn't always create much atmosphere. A floor lamp does exactly that: it brings light down to eye level, right where you need it. Thanks to their height, floor lamps spread light through the room naturally, making the space feel warmer and more inviting. And there's no need to drill: simply place the lamp wherever you need it.
Where do you place it?
Beside or behind the sofa is a classic choice: the lamp provides reading light without getting in the way. In a dark corner, a floor lamp fills the empty space and helps make the room feel more welcoming. In a reading corner, choose a model with a directional or adjustable shade, so you can direct the light onto your book.
Which model do you choose?
Consider the direction of the light. An open shade that spreads light both upwards and downwards creates a soft glow throughout the room, while a closed shade or adjustable spotlight provides more focused reading light. If you want light over the sofa without a connection point in the ceiling, an arc lamp is a practical solution. Models with a foot switch or touch dimmer are useful too.
Light and atmosphere
Choose warm white light (around 2700K) for a cosy living room. If you also use the lamp for reading, a higher brightness can be useful. A 3-step dimmable light bulb gives you both: full brightness for reading and softer light in the evening. Most models use an E27 bulb fitting; the bulb you need is listed in the product details.
