Light on your worktop
Good lighting is essential when preparing food. Yet one of the most common mistakes is relying on a single ceiling light in the middle of the room. When you stand at the worktop, your back blocks the light, leaving you working in your own shadow just when you need to see clearly, for example when finely chopping vegetables. The solution is to position the light in front of you, either underneath the wall cupboards or on the ceiling above the worktop.
Which lighting works best?
Cabinet lighting provides light directly above the worktop, with LED spotlights fitted underneath your kitchen cupboards. Spotlights provide directional light from the ceiling, which you can aim at the worktop. Track lighting offers flexibility, allowing you to reposition the spotlights as your kitchen layout changes. Pendant lights above a kitchen island or breakfast bar provide both practical lighting and atmosphere.
Lighting under the cupboards
Cabinet lighting fitted underneath your wall cupboards is an effective way to light your kitchen worktop. The light falls directly onto your chopping board, helping you avoid shadows. Our LED spotlights have a low profile, so they sit discreetly beneath your cupboards. Models with a motion sensor are particularly useful when your hands are full while preparing food.
Light and colour temperature
For task lighting in the kitchen, cool white light can help you see details clearly while preparing food. Above a dining table or breakfast bar in the same room, warm white light creates a more relaxed atmosphere. If you use spotlights to highlight a specific area of the worktop, consider a narrow beam angle. For lights installed near the sink, check the stated protection rating (IP rating) to ensure the fitting is suitable for its location. Order before 14:00 for same-day dispatch.
