Light on the table, not in your eyes
The right pendant light makes all the difference. It should light the table well without shining in your eyes or getting in the way when you're talking to people across the table. A low-hanging pendant light with a closed shade is ideal for this.
Which lights work best?
Dining table pendant lights are the classic choice for lighting your dining table. Wall lights add extra atmosphere around the dining area. Track lighting is a practical alternative if there is no ceiling connection directly above the table.
Is your ceiling connection in the wrong place?
This is a common problem: the ceiling connection is in the middle of the room, but your dining table is off to one side. Fortunately, you don't need to alter the ceiling. With track lighting, you can position the light where you need it. Simply attach a track to the existing connection and fit a track pendant light above your table. If you move the table later, you can slide the light along the track to suit its new position.
Creating the right atmosphere
Choose warm white light (around 2700K) for a cosy dining room. Dimmable lighting is particularly useful here: brighter light is helpful while eating, while softer lighting creates a more relaxed atmosphere afterwards. A 3-step dimmable pendant light lets you adjust the brightness using your ordinary wall switch, without the need for a separate dimmer.
