Atmosphere in your bedroom
Where a ceiling light is mainly functional, a pendant light gives your bedroom more character. It hangs lower and therefore stands out straight away, making the room feel less bare. Increasingly, two small pendant lights are also being used on either side of the bed instead of lamps on the bedside table: this creates a calm look while keeping your bedside table completely clear.
Soft light matters more here
Because you look up at the light while lying in bed, glare is particularly important to consider. Choose a model with a fabric or woven shade, or with opal-white glass, to soften the light. If you hang pendant lights beside the bed, position them so they light up your book without shining directly into your eyes.
Which style suits a bedroom?
Calm styles work particularly well here. Japandi models with linen shades and soft tones suit a room where you want to unwind, as do Wabi-Sabi lamps with their organic shapes, or pendant lights in natural materials such as wood, bamboo and rattan.
Light and bulb
Choose warm white light (around 2700K) for a calm atmosphere. Dimmable lighting is particularly useful in the bedroom: a 3-step dimmable pendant light gives you three brightness levels using your ordinary wall switch, without a separate dimmer. With lamps without integrated LED, you choose the bulb yourself; the lamp holder you need is listed in the product details.
