Moisture is the deciding factor here
Bathrooms are often humid, and light fittings can be exposed to splashes of water. With an ordinary lamp, the electrical components are not protected against moisture, which makes choosing lighting here different from any other room. Always check the stated protection rating (IP rating) for the intended location. The closer the light is to the bath or shower, the stricter the requirements.
Where do you find what?
A bathroom ceiling light provides general lighting for the whole room. A bathroom wall light provides softer light beside the mirror. You can also choose a bathroom mirror with integrated lighting. Light by the mirror
This is where lighting often falls short. A ceiling light directly above you can cast shadows on your face, making it harder to see clearly when shaving or applying make-up. The solution is to use lighting from the sides or from the mirror itself. Two wall lights beside the mirror work well, while an illuminated mirror offers a simple all-in-one solution, often with a built-in demister that keeps the mirror clear after a hot shower.
Light and light colour
Cool white light works well by the mirror, helping you see clearly when shaving or applying make-up. Around the bath, warm white light creates a more relaxing atmosphere. If you want both options, some mirrors and spotlights have an adjustable colour temperature, allowing you to switch between warm white, neutral white and daylight-like light.
