What is an AR111?
An AR111 is a large spotlight bulb with a diameter of 111 mm, hence the name. It has a G53 bulb fitting with two thick pins that you insert into the fitting. Thanks to its size and built-in reflector, this bulb produces a powerful, tightly focused beam of light, much stronger than an ordinary GU10 spotlight.
Where do you use it?
AR111 bulbs are ideal wherever you want a lot of light focused on one area, such as highlighting a piece of art, a façade or a shop window, or in a space with a high ceiling where an ordinary spotlight may not reach the floor effectively. They are often used in shops, showrooms and galleries, but can also work well at home in large or high-ceilinged spaces. The fitting is larger than a standard spotlight, so keep the installation dimensions in mind.
Note: 12V and a transformer
This is the most important point to note. Many AR111 bulbs run on 12 volts rather than mains voltage, which means you need a transformer or driver between the mains and the bulb. If your fitting already has one, check its specifications and make sure the load is within its range. The product details state the required voltage for each bulb.
Light colour and beam angle
As with an ordinary spotlight, the beam angle determines where the light falls: choose a narrow beam to highlight something and a wider beam for more general lighting. Choose warm white for a living space or gallery, and cool white for a work environment or showroom. The load, beam angle and light colour are listed in the product details.
